Q: Should I use Graphite or Steel shafts for my Irons?
A: Graphite shafts obviously reduce
the total weight of the club, and that is generally good for all
players, but this is especially true for women and seniors. If you have a very slow swing speed typical for most ladies,
seniors, and juniors, then graphite shafts for all of your clubs would
be recommended to help you gain some extra distance. Slower swing
speeds will not sacrifice as much control with a graphite shaft as a
higher swing speed would. Graphite
also absorbs the shock of impact, and this can benefit those who have
joint problems, making for a more comfortable round of golf. That said,
most golfers believe steel shafts for irons are better because of
accuracy and or consistency. The major benefit of steel for the AVERAGE GOLFER is
price, due to the fact that the least expensive shaft option for irons
is fine for most players and happens to be steel.
Q: Should I use Graphite or Steel shafts for my Woods?
A: The modern standard for almost all
players is graphite shafts for woods. It is lighter, and allows for
larger and more forgiving clubheads to be used for increased
playability without requiring more strength to swing and control the
club. It also can allow for longer shaft lengths with no increase in
wieght, which for the same swing speed will increases clubhead speed
resulting in more distance off the tee. Most Graphite drivers are 1/2"
to 1" longer than their steel counterparts. So if getting the most out
of your swing speed with the least effort sounds good to you, then
choose one of our graphite shaft options.
Q: Should I order a Sand Wedge?
A: You can play from the sand trap with
a pitching wedge but for most golfers it won't work as well as a sand
wedge. What makes a sand wedge different is the amount of "bounce"
built into the sole of the club. Bounce is where the trailing edge of
the clubhead is lower than the leading edge. In a sand trap this is
what provides the lift or explosion to extract the ball. A sand wedge
is also useful in heavy thick grass. A sand wedge is offered as an
option on all of our iron sets, and while it's better in most cases
to avoid the sand, you'll need to learn how to play out of it, so why
not use the club designed for it?
Q: Which Putter will work best for me?
A: We don't know. That's another
reason why golf is such a great game, it's really at least two games in
one. You can have the tee to green play mastered and still lose to a
shorter hitter who knows how to chip the ball, read a green and putt.
Putters are a completely personal item; if you haven't found yours yet
give one of ours a try. We offer 10 different stlyes to choose from. In our line we have the 2 and 3 ball
putters which are mallet style putters and have alignment balls in back of the putter face to help
set the line for you. All are fine choices, we recommend you go to a
store with a putting green to see which style you prefer then save some
money and buy from us.
